The convenience fees and instances associated with electronic filings are vague. Question 1: What is the actual cost associated with the convenience fee/s? Question 2: Will a fee schedule specific to convenience fees be posted? Question 3: Do the convenience fees vary depending on type of filing? Question 4: Does a separate convenience fee apply if e-filing separate pleadings for same case at same logged-in? (example: Filing Appearance and/or Jury Demand, then Filing Response to Complaint).

Daniel asked if there is a fee to access documents that have been previously filed by your own firm. If you are seeking copies from the court's paper file, the statutory fee for copying will still apply. If you e-file pleadings on a commercial litigation case, you will have unlimited access to those documents on cases where you are registered.
The Clerk's Office anticipates that the next rollout could be within six to eight months of a successful pilot. We anticipate rolling out the remainder of Law Division and then follow that with the other civil divisions. The order of rollout has not yet been determined.

The Illinois Supreme Court has authorized the use of electronic service. It is between the parties to ensure compliance with all rules of procedure and service.
Any case pending in the Commercial Litigation section will be eligible for electronic filing following implementation of the pilot.
In order to utilize the electronic check process, a user will have to provide the routing number and account number of their checking account.
I attended the e-filing training today. I found the system user-friendly enough--about comparable to the federal court system. However, the charge to file a document is a tremendous drawback for lawyers. Lawyers in the Loop probably will only use the system in extra-ordinary circumstances. The $3 charge to file a single document is not worth it. I encourage the Clerk to come up with a system which practitioners can use in routine filings. I realize this probably is not cost effective until a paperless system is allowed by law. So I encourage the Clerk to press the Supreme Court to allow a paperless system. I also encourage the Clerk to link .pdf copies of documents to the electronic document. I am sure the Clerk could make lots of money in allowing registered users to download filed documents from the internet rather than going to the Clerk's office, pull the file and make a copy. Lawyers will pay a premium for that service.
If a complaint and summons is filed requesting (with additional fee) the clerk to deliver to the sheriff for service, will the clerk scan and/or email the return of service from the sheriff to the party that requested service?
